Dental Treatments for Children

Sterling VA Dentist

Your child’s first dental treatment should begin around age one, when their first teeth begin to appear, and parents should begin brushing their child’s teeth at that time as well. Brush the teeth daily with a soft toothbrush, with a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste after the child is old enough not to swallow it.

By age 4 or 5, children should be able to brush their teeth on their own twice a day, with supervision to ensure they are doing a proper job. Have your young child visit EverSmile Dentistry when you have your teeth cleaned so they can see just how easy and painless it is.

Young children also enjoy our play area, filled with toys, stickers, puzzles and games to keep them occupied while mom and dad or a sibling are being seen.

Healthy eating and dental care habits lead to healthy teeth, and sticky and sugary snacks should be consumed only as a treat. Healthy, nutritious food, and calcium found in milk, cheese and leafy green vegetables will contribute to the development of strong, healthy adult teeth, which begin forming beneath the bone shortly after birth.
